Negative results - Thoracic general Lack of prognostic significance of tumor angiogenesis in resected pN2 non-small cell lung cancer

چکیده
Objective: Despite extensive studies of tumor angiogenesis in non-small cell lung cancer, only a few studies had concentrated on pN2 disease. Methods: Sixty patients with pN2 non-small cell lung cancer who had undergone a complete resection with a systematic mediastinal lymph node dissection were reviewed retrospectively. Immunohistochemical study, using antibodies against factor VIII, was conducted. We compared between 5-year survivors and the others rather than the cumulative survival rate. Results: There were 13 patients (21.7%) survived longer than 5 years after a surgical resection. The microvessel density in survivor and non-survivor group was 22.9 ^ 14.8 and 24.3 ^ 21.9, respectively. This data indicated that microvessel density might not be related to the ratio of 5-year survivors (P 1⁄4 0:723). Multivariate analysis also showed that microvessel density was not independent prognostic factor. Conclusions: We failed to find a prognostic significance of tumor angiogenesis in pN2 disease. Although tumor angiogenesis might be important for the development and maintenance, it was not identified as a prognostic factor of pN2 non-small cell lung cancer. q 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. Expression of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor and the association with Demographic and Prognostic Factors in Patients with Non-small Cell Lung Cancer
Introduction: Growth, proliferation, survival, and differentiation are the prominent characteristics of cells, which are affected by cancer. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) plays a pivotal role in the effective control of these features. Given the significance of EGFR signaling pathway in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), EGFR expression is influential on these cell characteristics. I...

Objective(s): To investigate the role of miR-22 in the efficacy of combined icotinib (BPI-2009H) and pemetrexed (LY-231514) on tumor growth and apoptosis in rats with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).Materials and Methods: Rats were injected with HCC827 cells, which were transfected with anti-miR-22, followed by the treatment of BPI-20...
متن کاملPrognostic Factors for Surgically Resected N2 Non-small Cell Lung Cancer.
PURPOSE Non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLCs) with pathologically documented ipsilateral mediastinal lymph node (LN) metastases (pN2) are a broad spectrum of diseases. We retrospectively analyzed prognostic factors for cases of pN2 NSCLC treated by surgical resection. METHODS Clinicopathological data were reviewed for consecutive 121 patients who underwent anatomical pulmonary resection with m...
متن کاملPreoperative prognostic factors for pN2 non-small cell lung cancer.
PURPOSE The prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with pathologic mediastinal lymph node involvement (pN2) is poor in general. The majority of previously reported prognostic factors of pN2 disease are not available preoperatively. When we perform preoperative induction chemotherapy, we should undertake therapeutic planning according to preoperative factors. METHODS We focused on pre...
متن کاملPrognostic factors for resected non-small cell lung cancer with pN2 status: implications for use of postoperative radiotherapy.
BACKGROUND For non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with pN2 status, the use of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) remains controversial. Here, we investigated the association between different clinicopathological features and postoperative therapy and local control and survival in patients with resected pN2 NSCLC. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 83 patients with pN2 NSCLC who under...
